Federer v. Verdasco Liveblog

5:57| Federer cruises in his final service game. he won the game at love and locked up the match. He won the final set 6-1. 


5:55| Verdasco finally gets on the board. Nothing to write home about. 5-1 Federer


5:53| This match is so boring now. Verdasco is playing awful.


5:50|  Federer holds serve again. Damnitt Verdasco!!! I knew you were gonna blow it!! 5-0 Federer

5:49| Wow! Verdasco is on the verge of having an epic collapse. Federer breaks Verdasco again easily, and looks to have this match in control. 4-0 Federer.

5:43| I can't stop listening to "Down by the River" by Neil Young.

5:42| I think that was the shortest game of the match. Federer hit four winners in that game to win it without any real resistance. 3-0 Federer


5:41| Federer does break Verdasco in the longest game of the match. It's going to be hard for Fernando to stop the Fed-Express now. 2-0 Federer.


5:39| I have decided the computer screen and the television are making my eyes hurt. I put on some sunglasses to remedy that problem.

5:37| Verdasco fought back hard to force a duece point. 


5:35| Verdasco seems to be in trouble this game. Federer smashed two backhands cross-court that just blew Verdasco off the court.

5:33| Federer won the game at love. He hit an ace to add insult to injury at 40-0. 1-0 Federer.


5:31| Federer will open the third set serving to Verdasco.


5:30| Verdasco had to take a pee break before the second set. Unbelievable they need to get this train-a-movin'.


5:25| Verdasco didn't seem to be handling the pressure in that decisive game. He got broken at 40-15 and lost second set to Federer. First Set: 6-4 Verdasco, Second Set: 7-5 Federer. One more to go.

5:20| Federer pulls the game out. He barely holds serve and Verdasco is looking to close the match out in two sets. 6-5 Federer.

5:18| Verdasco missed a couple very close shots to let Federer go up 40-30. He then forced a duece point.

5:17| Verdasco hits a miracle lob over Federer's head to go up 30-0 on Fed's service game. 


5:16| Verdasco wins a huge point with a Federer unforced error at 30-30.  He then hits a huge forehand to hold serve. 5-5.

5:12|  I see something new every time that Roddick commercial is on. It never gets old.


5:11| Federer holds serve with ease again. Verdasco is really having a tough time winning any points on Fed's serve. 5-4 Federer


5:08| Verdasco rallies to win four points in a row to hold serve. 4-4.


5:06| Federer goes up 0-30. Could be trouble

5:04| Too busy looking up Roddick commercials and forgot to watch this game. 4-3 Federer.

5:00| Federer plays a really strong game. Verdasco responded nicely with a few big shots on some very important points. Verdasco takes a very tight game. 3-3.



4:55| Verdasco has not been able to do anything during Federer's service games this set. Fed wins another service game very comfortably. 3-2 Federer.

4:52| Verdasco still hasn't done anything spectacular, but is playing very very consistent tennis to hold serve. He hit a really nice accidental lob as well. 2-2.

4:45| "Blog that I just punched you in the dick, because it's about to happen". Cory said this to me after I asked him if he had seen the Lacoste commercial yet.

4:44| Federer spends all his time at the net again this game. He was serve-and-volleying beautifully and completely domninated Verdasco that game. 2-1 Federer.

4:43|  Verdasco plays an extremely tight game and makes Federer spray the forehand to end the game. 1-1.

4:41| Verdasco finally hit a winner!!! 

4:40| Federer has turned his game around quickly in this second set. Fabulous touch on the volley to win the game at love. 1-0 Federer

4:37| I am making Cory watch this entire match with me. He just complained about how much he hates the Roddick, Lacoste commercial for the eighth time. They have been showing it every commercial break. 

4:36| Again Verdasco doesn't have to hit winners to beat Federer. He wins the game at love and takes a huge lead in this match. First Set: 6-4 Verdasco

4:31| Federer spends a lot of time up at the net in this game. It pays off for him, and he takes the game pretty comfortable. Verdasco will serve for the first set in the next game. 5-4 Verdasco

4:27| Federer hits the net and had it roll over and bounce twice before Verdasco could get to it at 40-30 to force duece. However, Verdasco doesn't let that bother him, and wins two consecutive points at duece to win the game. 5-3 Verdasco.

4:23| Verdasco  cannot hit winners. Plain and simple. Verdasco had a big chance to break Federer again being up 40-15. However, he hit a couple of brain-dead shots in the net. Especially the leaping two-handed backhand. 4-3 Verdasco

4:20| Verdasco isn't hitting any big shots. He is just making Federer put the ball in play. Which he is having a lot of trouble doing. 4-2 Verdasco. 

4:14| Federer hits an amazingly skilled backhand volley at 30-30. He then hit a monster serve up the "T" which was too much for Verdasco to handle. 3-2 Verdasco. 

4:13| Federer is spraying the ball all over the court. Very sloppy tennis. I hope Verdasco takes advantage of Federer's slow start.

4:12| Verdasco hits a Sampras-esque jump smash to hold serve. 3-1 Verdasco

4:10| Federer hits a couple huge serves, and a really nice drop shot to win the game. 2-1 Verdasco.

4:08| Federer played a very un-characteristic game with really sloppy shots from the forehand and backhand. 2-0 Verdasco.

4:01| Federer is broken at love. YESSSS!!!! 1-0 Verdasco.

3:57| The match is finally starting. Federer opens the game with a double fault. There is still hope.

3:53| Federer has never lost a set to Verdasco. I hope this changes but I am predicting a beatdown for Federer. Also, Verdasco has let his hair grow out and no longer has the sweet faux-hawk. What a mistake.

3:49| I think it's creepy that the players hold hands with little kids on their way out to the court. 

3:45| It is looking like a 4:00 o'clock start. The preview the Tennis Channel does for the eight players in this tournament is very well done. They nickname the players in this event the "elite 8".

3:36| Just saw some highlights from Murray's match this morning. Murray beat Del Potro in three sets and moved closer to what I hope will be a tournament win.

3:33| I didn't know that Nadal still had a chance to take over the number one ranking from Federer. That can only happen if Federer doesn't make it out of the round robin portion of this tournament. Let's go Verdasco!!

3:20| Bhupati/Knowles win the match 6-3 6-3. Federer and Verdasco should be out of the locker room soon. soon.

3:11| Uggghhhh..... 4-2 Bhupati/Knowles. This match is taking way to long.The O2 Center is a really nice looking arena. Olympic basketball will be played there in the summer of 2012.

2:58| Still watching doubles. Bhupati/Knowles is a pretty famous doubles team, and it is really no surprise that they are beating these no name guys. 6-3, 3-1 as we speak.

Since I cannot find out exactly when this match starts I am just sitting by waiting for Bhupati/Knowles v. Cermak/Mertinak to end. I believe the Federer match will start at the end of this doubles match.
